Sticky Sesame Pork Belly Skewers

Ingredients

  • 1 kg pork belly, rind removed and cut into cubes
  • 60 ml light soy sauce
  • 60 ml cooking sake
  • 30 g Rub & Grub Sticky Sesame Seasoning
  • 30 ml ketchup manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the light soy sauce, cooking sake, Rub & Grub Sticky Sesame Seasoning, and ketchup manis. Mix well to make the marinade.
  2. Add the pork belly cubes to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover the bowl with cling film and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  3. Pre-heat your BBQ for medium-high heat direct cooking. We used a Weber Go-Anywhere BBQ with a Rub & Grub GA Hibachi / Yakitori Mesh Cooking Grate.
  4. Thread the marinated pork belly cubes onto the soaked wooden skewers and place them directly on the BBQ.
  5. Cook for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the pork is cooked through and golden brown.
  6. Brush the skewers with any remaining marinade during the cooking process for extra flavour and stickiness.
  7. Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
  8. Serve the skewers with a side pickled cucumber salad and steamed rice. Enjoy!
